  1. Just got back from giving out leaflets in the town in which I live. I'm part of an Anti Cuts group trying to save council services. Most people take a leaflet, some read it and a few will attend a demonstration when our council cuts the budget in February.

Most people are polite but not all, some read and have a chat and from the conversations I'm having with people I can tell that anger is on the rise and sadly immigrants are being scapegoated. Today one woman was crying as she talked about the debt she was in and how difficult it was for her to get a job, she said she was thinking about turning to prostitution with tears streaming down her face.

Society is in a bad way, I dont think it can take another neoliberal government but that's the only thing on offer.

  3. "JSi offers tried and tested products and services from one of the largest and most integrated offender management systems in the world." It isn't integrated anymore. And the products are so tried and tested that TR providers will do away with them. For 'tried and tested', maybe we should read 'tired and testing'. Just reminds me how NOMS got us in this mess to begin with.

    1. Noticed how difficult it is to find anything on the net about jsi?
Even their home page won't allow you to view who their partnerships are forged with.

    3. Ok - I've watched the growing indignation about the JSI thing with vague interest but I have to ask - why does anyone have a problem with us sharing our probation models with other countries? If we do it will cost someone - do we cut our own services to fund it or do we charge for it? We helped Bulgaria create a probation service from scratch maybe 10 years ago. We didn't pay for that. So what's the issue here. Is this grabbing things to kick Grayling about without worrying too much if we are criticising good ideas?

As for its all about the money - well actually it is. I never wanted to work free of charge. I see myself as a professional with a right to be paid for my skills. Giving our services to someone who makes a profit and pays dividends doesn't seem right. But that doesn't mean that we don't have valuable experience and knowledge that others might pay for and mean the person on the next desk to me keeps their job rather than being squeezed out by budget cuts.

  4. Is everyone OK now with the napo general sec? I thought he was on the verge of being voted out, no confidence etc. Then he enters JR drops it again and all has gone quiet. I don't know the ins and outs of Napo but overall (not just JR) feel let down.

  5. From the IFTS website:

"The following statement is an example of the commitment the chief executive makes on joining IFTS:

I am personally committed to making sure that we trade fairly in information. To show the strength of my commitment, both in [organisation] and to our customers, I have asked The National Archives to begin the process of verification that the organisation and decision making of [organisation] support this commitment in practice.

I will insist that we strictly follow an open and transparent system of trading that meets the terms of the Competition Act 1998. My aim is that, in principle, we can meet all the needs of anyone who applies for a licence to re-use information for any purpose. We will publish any exceptions on our website and strictly follow them."
