A Fork in the Road

Whatever happens today, history is being made. Make sure you are part of it!

The social media world has been rocked today by the publication of an amazing new general election video that will be very familiar to fans of Ken Loach’s powerful new film “Sorry we missed you” and the award-winning “I, Daniel Blake”.

“A fork in the Road” features cast members of the two movies and draws on the same themes of the bleakness and hardship of life for millions under the Tories – and then reminds us of the choice we face on Thursday.

A choice – a ‘fork in the road’ – between more of the same misery and exploitation under the Tories, or change and decency under a Labour government. Although it wasn’t made by Loach, it carries the same impact and heart.

Loach kindly recorded an introduction to the video, in which he calls on everyone who wants change to make sure that the video is seen by as many people as possible in the final 48 hours before polls close on Thursday night.

    1. Conspiracy or cock-up theory? Its a bit like misspeaking or 'a slip of the tongue', t'was just a dreadful accidental influential mishap. So sorry old chap!

      * The BBC has come under fire after a TV reporter appeared to refer to Boris Johnson winning the majority 'he so deserves'.

Viewers hit out after political correspondent Alex Forsyth made the reference during a live link from South Wales during coverage of the general election.

In the clip, which was shared on Twitter, she says:

"For the Conservative Party I think the nervousness comes from the fact that their strategy has centred on putting Brexit right at the front of their campaign. They have done a relentless focus on Boris Johnson's promise to take the UK out of the European Union if he wins the majority that he so deserves."

The clip sparked anger from Twitter users, who accused the BBC of bias.

One wrote: "These 'mistakes' are embedded in the culture in the people they employ. It's that simple - and you are forced to pay for it."

Another said: "I've just reported it to the BBC. Absolutely shocking."

Ofcom confirmed that it has received six complaints regarding the incident, while a spokesperson from the BBC told Yahoo News UK that the gaffe was 'a slip of the tongue'.

    1. Morning! After a nightmare day running a double Polling Station quadrupled in size with people queuing at 7.00am and up the street at 11am - I'm feeling shell-shocked and normal service may not resume for some time.

  5. Nice to see NPS senior management have decided to engage with the blog this morning. With De Pfeffel in the house they now feel emboldened to take on Jim Brown's blog.

Note to Regular Readers - Brace yourselves for a plethora of antagonistic posts from the craven shapeshifters, the parasites & those good old fashioned bullies who will see this election result as a green light.

  6. Excellent result, Socialism has been returned to the bin where it belongs. We have a patriotic PM who believes in the greatness of our fantastic country, rather than the terrorist sympthasing anti-semite.

He's not patriotic, and you won't think he is either when you're paying for private healthcare.

  7. What inadequacies & sadnesses people must have in their lives if they think posts on this blog like 08:44, 09:04, 14:50 & 15:05 are acceptable, vaguely amusing or 'just joking around'.

They are, in my view, merely the amuse bouche of an unravelling of the spite & unfettered bigotry in the DNA of the priveleged, those who aspire to such privelege, and the wannabe's who have no checks & balances.

Once again, as others have, I'd point folks in the direction of Peterloo and urge you to watch.

The Priveleged Few = the Aristocracy aka Government
The Aspirants = the power-hungry Magistrates
The Wannabe's = the obedient Yeomanry

    1. Sometimes others have different opinions 19.34 and its healthy to have difference within our lives. In our work we meet lots of people who have opposite view points but wouldn't dream of making such sweeping statements.

    2. The post of 19;34 is spot on.
Why would we think it’s positive to have a party in power who decimated probation , targets the most vulnerable people in society inc our clients and who are and will selll off the nhs ?

    3. To 21:21 - "Sometimes others have different opinions 19.34 and its healthy to have difference within our lives. In our work we meet lots of people who have opposite view points..."

Racists. Islamophobes. Anti-Semites. Paedophiles & those who believe its okay to engage in or watch sexual activity with children. Those who kill women, partners &/or their children simply because they can't get their own way...

All of these are different opinions to mine. Do I accept them & celebrate the healthiness of their existence in our lives? Or do I challenge them as perpetrators of criminal abuse against others?

Such 'different' views are analogous to the distorted thinking & unbridled implementation of power we witness in the political classes - especially over the last few years.

So please don't ask me to make space or excuses for those with tiny hands, tiny dicks & self-inflated egos - the bullies, the bigots, the perpetrators of abuse - by suggesting I should respect their 'difference'.

  9. The election has introduced us to the Trussell Trust Tories, based across the country and with minimum hours contracts, welfare support and oppressive private landlords they think "Boris is Great - Get Brexit done ! " Its absolutely demoralising - it was clear that Brexit did for the opposition in Leave seats and the Lib Dems in the Remain.
I am so sad and fear for many of our service users.
