We are going back to Victorian age of employment. Those at the top get richer on the labours of their workforce, who themselves have few rights.

We now see it as acceptable that increasing numbers of people holding down multiple part-timer jobs, often on zero hours contracts. Daily Mail readers see nothing wrong with this, but do we really want to return to a time when gangs of workers wait in groups, grovelling, in the hope that they will get a day’s work and wage to feed their families.

This is how private sector contractors can reduce their costs – they negotiate a good contract where any change at all is severely punished, and they cut and cut wages and perks for all except the very top. The country will get richer (but the wealth will not trickle down to the majority, the same as in Victorian times.)

Everything the government is going reinforces this. They are behind a proposal for no-fault dismissals, they are reducing employment tribunal access and promote an underpaid ‘flexible’ workforce that will shortly be working to 70 years of age.

Of course the richTory boys want this. They are millionaires because of their inherited wealth. They are the heartless land barons, mine and mill owners of 100 years ago, their wealth created for them by those they need, but none-the-less despise.

I hate what this country has become.
Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8578343158425987632.post-74008359198448080882013-07-25T18:42:31.270+01:002013-07-25T18:42:31.270+01:00Thanks - this gets a mention in tomorrows blog.

This could then be quoted at every opportunity and every instance put to Grayling. Not that it would have any effect mind. But it would give me and you ENORMOUS satisfaction to know the opposition have completely lost the argument. It would then be obvious to even the most distracted sun reader that the neoliberals were basically dishonest greedheads. Private companies are complaining that many police forces are now 'insourcing' their forensic science service, which in itself threatens impartiality. We once had an independent publicly funded forensic science service staffed by qualified scientists with years of experience who jumped ship when the service was privatised. According to the select committee's report the forensics upheaval is a 'threat to justice'. Well, I guess this is what happens when politicians obsessively privatise. They are like fundamentalists, in that rationality and evidence are secondary to ideology. HMP Oakwood and Thameside have received the lowest grading possible. State run HMP Winchester also received a level 1 grading but unlike the other two privately run it was built in the middle of the 1800s. The pther two only opened last year!!
Prisons have been contracted to the private sector for many years now and certainly long enough for the private sector to know how to do things right.
If after all this time they"re still not reaching required standards how can they be trusted to do so with the TR agenda?
Piss poor performance when you"re responsible for the care of human beings equals some level of neglect or suffering.
Please Mr Grayling, throw the towel in now.
