My team re-introduced this last year with our most local court and we've never had a better relationship as a result.
If you see a problem, change it. Me and a colleague went in to Court, figured out what did and didn't work and have turned it around on a multi-agency level. HMCS, Probation, drugs team, mental health and solicitors all work together where I'm based. It's efficient and effective and the offenders are responding to the practice - compliance with Probation has never been higher as the message starts from the moment they hit the court room.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8578343158425987632.post-89912165285177657542010-10-15T14:09:23.139+01:002010-10-15T14:09:23.139+01:00As I commented, a stand alone list as above is mea...As I commented, a stand alone list as above is meaninglessThe Justice of the Peacehttp://thejusticeofthepeace.blog.co.uknoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8578343158425987632.post-66306703129112394312010-10-15T10:52:02.044+01:002010-10-15T10:52:02.044+01:00World Prison Population list 7th edition per 100,0...World Prison Population list 7th edition per 100,000 population:-
UK 148
Netherlands 128
Italy 104
Germany 95
Turkey 91
France 85
Sweden 82
Denmark 77Jim Brownhttp://www.probationmatters.blogspot.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8578343158425987632.post-8167008717258425882010-10-15T10:18:34.161+01:002010-10-15T10:18:34.161+01:00Generally I have found good old fashioned no nonse...Generally I have found good old fashioned no nonsense common sense here but I was disappointed to note your comment:-

I think it is relevant to remind protagonists of this argument that Britain already has the highest rate of imprisonment of any other comparable European country.

As somebody who has huffed and puffed against the happy slappy use of statistics I am sure you know that such a stand alone statement is a gross distortion and is a disservice to your otherwise perceptive comments.

As far as contact with probation I can only comment that my own bench usually has a representative talk to a meeting about every eighteen months. And on that topic I can recall a couple of years ago when the subject was drugs and rehabilitation. On being asked for questions I enquired about the situation with methadone which I said in my opinion is weaning from one addiction to another and whether the speaker wished to comment.
